  1. Hi Saleem,

Always interesting to watch what goes on in the market. It acts like an old woman who has her last monies in stock. Frightened she pulls it out, then greed for more, she puts it right back in. Emotional buying and selling. Your strategy works well with her. Peace.

  2. Good morning Saleem,
This week should be very interesting. Will the Fed cut 50? Will ER's be strong? Will MM's try to test the lows of 08? Will job reports bolster the last one? But most importantly, will LDK and MLNM breakout??? LOL...

  3. I don't know if anyone published this link yet, but here it is. Peter Lynch's take on the economy and the Solar sector.

  4. Hi Mainer,
I just wonder if all Solar companies should be lumped into a sector and be judged solely on that? I know that sectors matter a lot, but Peter discussed problems that affect some companies and do not affect others. LDK is selling products in Asia for example. China has made a commitment to alt. energy. LDK is not dependent of German demand or tax credits from the U.S. The only short term threat could be increased competition and tightened profit margins. But LDK has new contracts that make their PE and investment attractiveness much more attractive than others. IMO. I do hold LDK so maybe I am bias. LOL... I would love for anyone to challenge my opinion as I always like to hear all sides.

  7. Standards, Saleem and other AAPL holders,

What are your thoughts for AAPL. Since December 2007, price action has been brutal needless to say. My feelings long-term (>6 months) are very positive. What I am wondering is... what are your thoughts regarding near term (now through 3Q 2008)? How is everyone handling the volatility now? and will you be trading out if there is a near-term market rally? What is everyone's strategy long and short-term?

  8. Hi Bruce,

This market will remain volatile until august..imho

Markets will be rangebound with ascending slope....

I never talk about my next purchase...but to deal with your question with meat & potato...

I will be adding AAPL on monday...

I will trade out of AAPL ..hoping for a $12 move UP.....

This is a market for rapid trades on volatile stocks like AAPL & RIMM......based on how I want to play it......

    Hope it helps !!!

  9. Hi Saleem and others. I sold AAPL on 1/4/2008 at 185.86, some $55 ago. Even though it was $55 ago, it was still at a loss for me as I bought at 194.67. I limit my losses for capital preservation. I have been looking to re-enter, but still skeptical. What happened to all the i-phones that were sold but not activated? Less than expected ipods? Ultra-conservative guidance as well. Not getting the CHL contract. Be careful in this difficult market. Peace.

  10. Hi Bruce,

I like AAPL but do not hold any. Too risk bound for me right now, too much bad press. Too much attention on the downside.

  11. Hi Minaccess,

Thanks for your take on AAPL.

There has been lot of negative press on AAPL lately.....because hedge funds are short NOW....

@ certain point ...I have NO problem in being aggressive on a bargain like AAPL....

All the negativity is priced in AAPL imho.

  17. Hi Bruce,
I realized this week that I have been more confident to trust my instincts and made several profitable trades, because my long LDK position has been improving and I am not holding the bag so badly. My point to you is, I hope that you can see that wether or not I have been in a loss hold with LDK, I could have still been making good and profitable trades. It was my confidence and my timing that was off, wether the LDK position was up or down. So, while you are in the hold position with your AAPL investment, I hope that you will see past that and realize that these extreme volatile swings are offering fabulous opportunities, both long and short. IH says that the next few months could be more profitable for traders than two years worth of more normal range bound years. You probably already know these things, I just saw the impact of being in a loss position and what I allowed it to do to me. Now if LDK goes back down for some reason, I am not going to let it stop me from trusting my instincts and keep my money working for me. best of luck. I Hope I didn't come off as preachy, that was not my intention. I am more than anything, using the blog as a soundboard to get my own thoughts out and bolster my observations to myself, so that I can continue to be effective.

I was not sure about your message, as to a complaint or informatin sharing. I have learned a lot since this message board. First it requires a whole lot of conviction to handel this market. But IMHO you are more of a day trader than opportunity trader. So you time horizon is totally different than mine.
I once learned that buying and selling channeling stocks was a good method to make $$$. Now I look at FA a lot more and then look TA and try to get my target selling price.

Saleem has helped me in this regard
    Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!
    Peace

  19. Hi Mad,
thanks for letting me know that my message was vague. I was not complaining at all. I was saying that sometimes, if we find ourselves down in a position, it can affect our whole approach to the market. And sometimes that can stop us from making money because of being on "tilt" like in poker, when you are losing and your judgement gets worse and worse. Once I realized that this was happening to me i.e. LDK, it gave me the chance to say "I cant let a bad position in a stock stop me from continuing to make Money with my cash on hand". So, I was just trying to encourage Bruce and others who are way down in a stock, to keep making money with the cash they have and not sit on the sidelines because of potential clowded judgement or fear of losing more... I hope that makes sense. p.s. I am also a big believer in LDK. It just happened to be the stock that made me realize how being in loss position got me scared to keep trying to make money. It is when it came back that I started getting confident again. Now that I know this,I wont let any stock stop me from working my game plan in the future. Love the interaction on the blog!!!

  20. Doug,

I agree with you on LDK. When the new plant comes online, and the margins increase, could make over $5 a share. Times a reasonable (low?) PE of 30,
    it could blast past 100.

But it's a 2009 story. However, the mutuals may pick up on it and then discount the 2009 success into 2008.

My time horizon is one to two years.

I'm underwater now, having sold at $70, and then bought back at $49, but will not be shaken out of this position unless it becomes apparent that new poly plant will not come on line.

    That's a long shot.

And no matter what the supply/demand of poly is this year, the world is moving toward solar. Wouldn't it have been nice to gotten in on the ground floor of oil at the beginning of the nineteen hundreds? With solar, we have that chance.

    Tom

  21. Hi Board. LDK may be a 2009 story, but stocks are markets are forward looking. This is the time to accumulate smartly. Still, this market is tough. We may get a chance to buy more near 30. Peace.
