If you get a chance, will you please explain about SOLF? Earning projection? Convertible at 19 dollar? Is it the reason it can go down because of convrtible? short interest risings big ?thanx

Stop is based on the normal volatility of the stock.
Some stock are more volatile than others.
Stop is part of knowing your stock price movement.
So... see how much each stock swings in a day..taking high & low.
Generally ...if your comfort level is high based on your homework..then use slightly BELOW 50DMA or 200 DMA as MAY be the case.
IBD has a rule of 8% below your cost & most trader follow that diligently......
I am more of a 70% fundamental & 30% technical...so have mental stop for all my stocks....
If I am "comfortable with my stock then I keep IT through the market meltdown...which we just experienced"
As you are NEW to markets....I strongly suggest you LEARN to do homework before buying & then sell only when something has CHANGED about that stock....FA wise...
So... you have a whole formula to choose from 8% IBD.....BELOW 50DMA or 200DMA...or 12% below your cost based on you being NEW.

ReplyDeleteSOLF convertible is after 10 year @ $19.13..In the meantime SOLF will pay 3.5% interest every year on $150 million.....
Most of this money is going for improving SOLF business.
By Feb 24th we will have all the final numbers for this convertible.
Every company has need for capital in the early stages.
SOLF is expected to earn 61 cents in 08 vs 48 cents in 07 an improvement of 27% YOY....
SOLF had some problem with Silicon supply for PV cell..now they are correcting it.
SOLF is NOT the best positioned solar company..thus their IS short position.....
SOLF current price reflects all the issues which it is facing.
Based on your cost...you may want to trade out when you have profit.
