Hi Joseph,

I saw your post from Wednesday and Saleem already gave the best advice out there. As for me, I manage my retirement account with 10-12 stocks in various sectors that I feel can outperform their peers and hopefully the market overall.

It has been such a long bull market now that I fear it will only get more difficult to find the true winners, but I still wake up every day and try!

Current portfolio: GM FDX SWKS URI LNKD SPLK WAFD RLYP DHI, cash 9.7% (waiting for an opportunity)

I like RLYP so much that my wife's entire IRA is in it (much smaller but still). Given it already has FDA approval, much of that "biotech" risk is gone and the stock appears to have appreciation potential of 50%+ given future drug sales and/or takeover valuation.

Good luck with the new endeavor! :)

Hi Joseph,

This is the story of my self managed retirement funds back in 1987.

Company i was working for 5 years got taken over and they paid all the funds which was there for retirement to be managed by individuals themselves.

I got $17,000 in October of 1987, i put that amount in Fidelity mutual fund....that was October 10th, 1987.....

Stock market crashed on October 26th, 1987......

My account was left with $12,000 after 16 days...a drop of 29.41%...in 16 days.....imagine how i felt ......

For the next almost 8 years, i kept managing that $12,000 with 4 Fidelity mutual funds, switching back & forth between equity, money market.....

After 8 years...i grew that $12,000 into $50,000.....when i left my employer.....a gain of 417% in 8 years...annual gain rate of 52.08%.....

NO i was not unlucky in the beginning.....

NO i was not lucky in the end......

It is all about hard work and how you recover from setbacks.....

Being a Taurus helps a lot....

Some food for thought, when you embark on your journey.....

Hi Stocktrader,

Thanks for sharing your current portfolio and your valuable advice. I know Saleem continues to share his views and ideas in stock market. I will look at all your advice and see what is best for me. I do agree with you that the market has grown so much and we don't know what to expect in future.

I was away with my wife and kids for BLACK FRIDAY shopping. I have a full time job and I spend lot of my time with my kids especially with their education. And so I don't get much time to post my comments. But I do see everything both you and Saleem share here.

Thanks a lot and enjoy the holidays

Joseph

Hi Saleem,

Thanks for sharing your investment story. I know it is so difficult to make money. At least you have the knowledge and experience and that will certainly help you cope with all the pressures of trading.

I used to visit your blog before. When I bought a new computer I forgot the PW. And the email account became inactive. And so I had to create a new account to access your blog. Actually my name is Joseph. You know that my son is also Taurus (MAY). I have two kids and they are both in school. I spend lot of my time with my kids. They are doing well in school. I work for State of FL. I write this to let you know that we had been in touch.

My life is centered around my kids and family. And my philosophy is low living and high thinking. I lead a very simple life. And yet I am ambitious..... Budha gives the best advice. Control your desires and you will be happy.
Once again thank you Saleem for all your help.
May God continue to bless you and your family.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for sharing your personal details.

Both me & my wife are from large family, mine had 8 of us, me being the oldest.

My wife had 6, she being oldest.

I learned a lot about life very early when my father died @ age 46, i was only 19, had to take care of 7 brothers & sisters plus my mother.....it has been a journey and found many well wishers along the way.....which makes life very enjoyable.

Enjoy your belief as we have limited time to go through life.
